Well, the weather is not co-operating with my idea of heading to Dora Bay. The boats all left with a weather break yesterday, so everyone is gone and I pretty well missed the whole thing. I sat at Taquan Air today from 0630 to almost 1pm in the hope that the wind would die down...no such luck. Looking at the satellite photos, it looks like a HUGE new nasty front coming in, so if I did get out to Dora Bay, chances are that I would be stranded there, and miss the weekly ferry headed to Bellingham. I can't do that. So, I am about to book this room for yet another day, to wait for the Ferry on Wednesday.
There is one ray of sunshine in the final outcome. Barbara is on one of the boats, and will be back in Ketchikan tomorrow. If it works out, I'm planning to meet her and hopefully spend the whole day with her, at least. Of all the boat people, Barb, Darlene, and Floyd, are the real reasons I came on this trip.
I did so much want to go to Dora Bay, to actually see and photo it for myself, but the best laid plans don't always work, and I can't afford to get stranded out there. Darlene told me this kind of weather thing happens all the time here, and that there are times her or Floyd come to K and get stranded too. You just can't argue with Mother Nature here and be safe doing it. That's how people die, so that's how people handle it. Just settle in and wait. So, that's what I'm doing.
And, I got to meet Barb (VE7KLU) !!
Main Net control for Great Northern Boater's net.
By the way--she's awsome!!!
:O)
