Prior to N7GCW's 34 mile September 2008 backpack trip, along Washington State's Kettle Trail, Edison is venturing into Alaska. Here is an excerpt from future published articles about his upcoming journey's.

______

The Alaska Trek....

"I've wanted to cruise the Inland Passage for a lot of years.  Finally, everything just sort of fell into place. I figure it's because I'm supposed to do this for those who can't.

It begins slowly, as these things must, and it's all in the planning.  I'll be packing my backpack for the next month--repeatedly, I'm sure.  It has to be the correct ratio of weight versus useful/necessary/desired items.  The last category is always the first to go.  My ticket is paid. I have a confirmed spot to set-up my tent each night--yes, to sleep in.  I’ll be traveling 'Economy' class, meaning I didn't opt for a cabin.  Some folks sleep both nights in the comfortable chairs on the Ferry, but I decided that a tent is just enough.  This option gives me a bit of privacy, without costing me the extra $257 for a cabin.  Plus, I like to stretch out flat.  I can do that in my sleeping bag inside the tent.  I can also set-up my new Yaesu FT-817ND, and make some scheduled contacts.  I plan on making MANY UNSCHEDULED contacts too, so listen for me!

I'll be taking plenty of pictures and videos on this trip.  My buddy, "Doc" (KG6ZIN), will get to decide which of those get posted on the website.  Gonna be a HARD CHOICE, Doc!!

Here's my itinerary:

9 May...Leave Bellingham at 6pm

11 May...Arrive Ketchikan at 8:15am

Stay overnight in Ketchikan

12 May...Take Float Plane to Dora Bay

Visit with Floyd and Darlene and other members of the 'Great Northern Boaters Net'

14 May...Take Float Plane from Dora Bay to Ketchikan

14 May...Leave Ketchikan at 5pm

16 May...Arrive Bellingham at 8am

Well, back to packing.  Oh yes, the old guitar is coming along too.  Sorry, but a musician doesn't make a trip of this nature or distance, without taking his Axe!  That would be unheard of! Let's see...where's that other knife, too?"
